Broome Ice Creamery

Broome Ice Creamery is a milk bar and takeaway counter inside the Broome Boulevard Shopping Centre in Djugun, Western Australia, part of the Broome and Kimberley region. Positioned near the main entrance opposite Woolworths, it has been part of the daily rhythm of the town for more than two decades, serving locals on the weekly shop and travellers passing through on their way around the Kimberley.

The counter traded for many years as a branch of Wendy's Milk Bar before taking on the Broome Ice Creamery name, though very little else has changed. Soft-serve cones, sundaes and thick milkshakes sit alongside a full takeaway menu of grilled hot dogs, loaded nachos and hand-cut chips. Regulars tend to order the Cheesy Bacon Hot Dog or the mega-sized Cheese, Bacon and Onion version, while the Beef and Gravy Roll and a classic milkshake remain steady sellers with the after-school crowd.

Sitting inside one of Broome's two shopping centres gives the shop an easy, air-conditioned escape from the Kimberley heat, with free centre parking right outside the door. Trade picks up noticeably through the Dry Season between June and September, when Broome's population roughly doubles with visitors and the counter becomes one of the busiest takeaway stops in town.

Orders can be placed in person at Shop 10 or through Uber Eats for pickup and delivery around Broome. Menu prices sit firmly in classic milk-bar territory, and the combination of cold treats and hot takeaway food under one roof makes it an easy stop whether you're after a quick lunch or an ice cream to cool down. The shop trades Monday to Saturday and is closed on Sundays.
