Kuld Creamery is a handcrafted ice cream caravan that sets up on Town Beach in Broome, Western Australia, each dry season. It's the Kimberley outpost of a small West Australian ice cream business started by Mati and Kaitlyn Kuld, a couple who moved to Perth from Toronto and Michigan and missed the nostalgic ice cream flavours of home enough to start making their own.
What began as a tiny laneway nook in Highgate in 2016 grew into permanent stores in Fremantle and Northbridge, plus seasonal pop-ups at Rottnest Island and Broome. In Broome, the Kuld Creamery van serves small-batch ice cream churned the traditional way, pressed-to-order waffle cones and a rotating list of flavours that mix North American classics with local touches, including the Broome-only Broome Time, a mango and coconut scoop made specifically for the Town Beach crowd.
Regulars order the Founders' Flight to try a few flavours at once, or go straight for favourites like Double Choc Brownie and Camel Traxx, a caramel and toffee crunch swirl. Dairy-free, vegan, gluten-free and nut-free options are made with the same care as everything else on the board, and the gluten-free waffle cone is baked fresh in the van rather than shipped in. Ice cream sandwiches, built on house-made cookies, and take-home pints for the esky or camp fridge round out the menu.
Kuld Creamery's Broome caravan runs through the dry season, roughly April to October, and follows the same family-run approach as its Perth stores: real ingredients, no shortcuts, and flavours that change often enough to keep regulars coming back. It's a family-friendly, alfresco stop, not licensed, with takeaway available for anyone heading down to the water.
Best ice cream in the Kimberley, hands down. The double choc brownie is unreal and the gluten-free waffle cone was somehow just as good as the regular one.
So lovely to see locally made ice cream up here. Cones are pressed fresh and they properly cater for dairy-free and gluten-free without making a fuss about it.
Kids tried every flavour on the board, twice. Broome Time is the one we still talk about. Friendly van, great sunset spot to eat it.
Charming service and honestly the yummiest ice cream we had on our whole Kimberley trip. Camel Traxx deserves way more attention than it gets.
